Jan Josef Liefers

Jan Josef Liefers was born in Dresden and initially completed an apprenticeship in carpentry at the Dresden Semperoper after leaving school. He studied acting at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin and was subsequently engaged at the Deutsch Theater, Berlin and the Thalia Theater, Hamburg. He made his cinema debut in 1989. A breakthrough performance came in 1997 in Knocking on Heaven’s Door alongside Til Schweiger, and also in Helmut Dietl’s media satire Rossini. In addition to numerous further film and television productions, Jan Josef Liefers has played Professor Karl-Friedrich Boerne in WDR’s Münster based Tatort since 2002.

Jan Josef Liefers appeared at the RuhrTriennale 2006 with his band Oblivion in the Century of Song series.
