Olu Oguibe
Œuvre
Olu Oguibe studied Art History in London and until 2017 was Professor of Art at the University of Connecticut / USA, before devoting himself to art full time. He is a leading expert on the African and African American art scenes. He uses a range of media to examine political and social circumstances and constructs spaces for reflection and debate. He frequently creates impressive sculptural forms which he then decorates with a textual message, such as the six metre high obelisk with the inscription “I was a stranger and you took me in” that he installed on the Königsplatz in Kassel for documenta 14 (2017) and for which he was awarded the Arnold-Bode-Prize. In 2018, he realised the sculpture "Appeal To The Youth Of All Nations" as part of the Ruhrtriennale 2018. Alongside his artistic practice Oguibe is also active as a curator.
