The mirror is a window.
It offers a glimpse
Of where we are from
But cannot return.
We are all travelers
On this endless road
Condemned to roam
Without repose.

Olu Oguibe: „Conversation“,
in: I am bound to this land by blood. Rockville, USA 2013.

American artist, curator and poet Olu Oguibe returns to the Ruhrtriennale. His new work for 2020 is devoted to the people of the mining industry. It centres on portraits that enable the viewer to feel closer to the lives of these former miners. These will be displayed in the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum, a setting that will provide a comprehensive narrative about the mineworkers’ living environment. In this way it will reflect both personal and collective experiences.
