Elaine Mitchener wuchs als Kind jamaikanischer Eltern in Ost-London auf. Ihre Arbeit als Vokalistin, Performerin und Komponistin umfasst Improvisation, neues experimentelles Musiktheater und Tanz. Sie studiert Gesang bei Jacquline Bremar. Mitchener trat in zahlreichen prominenten Spielstätten und Festivals auf wie Bimhuis / Holland Festival in Amsterdam, 56. Venedig Biennale, Borealis Festival in Bergen / Norwegen, MaerzMusik in Berlin, Counterflows in Edinburgh, Rewire Festival in Den Haag, La Monnaie in Brüssel, Café Oto, ICA, Southbank Centre in London, London Contemporary Music Festival und Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin. Sie arbeitete u.a. mit Moor Mother, Sonia Boyce, Tansy Davies, Hamid Drake, Apartment House, David Toop, London Sinfonietta, Steve Beresford, Christian Marclay, Phil Minton, George Lewis und William Parker. Für die Donaueschinger Musiktage 2020 ist die Uraufführung von „On Being Human as Praxis“ in Vorbereitung.
