Elko Blijweert

Since the age of 14 Elko Blijweert has been active in several bands. He has collaborated with Rudy Trouvé since 1991 for, among others, the bands Dead Man Ray, Rudy Trouvé Septet, I Hate Camera and Kiss My Jazz. Elko has also played in jazz, pop, rock, punk, impro, folk and electro bands such as Franco Saint De Bakker, The Partchesz, Star Club West, Ow, Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, Bad Influence, Tip Toe Topic, The Archetypes, Laïs, Front 242 and Male or Female. In 1996 he collaborates with choreographer Sam Louwyck/ Les Ballets C de la B for the music of the performance Flippers. While his roots are rather in electronic body music, industrial and punk, he has a passion for jazz since the appearance of John Zorn’s Naked City. Thus his studies at the Jazz studio of the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp with among others François Decamps, Hendrik Braeckman and Martijn van Iterson. Since 1990 Elko has also been making radio programs for the independent Antwerp station Radio Centraal.
