Edu Haubensak

Composer

Edu Haubensak was born in Helsinki in 1954 and lives in Zürich. He received his musical training in theory and composition from 1976 to 1979 with Thomas Kessler and Robert Suter at Basel Academy of Music. He was a guest and scholarship holder at the Istituto Svizzero di Roma in 1984/1985 and won the Jury Prize at the International Composers’ Seminar in Boswil, Switzerland in 1984. He trained as a composer and took master courses with Heinz Holliger and Klaus Huber. He has undertaken in-depth study of and research into newly-tuned instruments. In 1994, he was awarded a one-year working residency by the City of Zürich and in 2006 the Zolliker Kunstpreis. In 2010, the Landis & Gyr Foundation awarded him a scholarship in London. His collected works include vocal and instrumental orchestral and chamber music, usually in new tunings (scordatura), music theatre and radiophonic works as well as concept-compositions, performances and sound installations.
