Alessandro Striggio: Missa sopra Ecco sì beato giorno (1565/66)
Luciano Berio: Coro für Stimmen und Instrumente (1975/76)
Chorwerk Ruhr presents Italian music from the late Renaissance and the Modern Age in association with the Duisburger Philharmoniker. Alessandro Striggio, 1536/37–1592, court musician to the Medici family, completed his greatest achievement with the 40and 60-part Missa sopra Ecco sì beato giorno, rediscovered in 2005. Luciano Berio’s Coro (1975/76) offers a spectacular range of texts and choral effects of its own. In keeping with the practice of ancient music and, for example, Striggio, the singing voices are doubled by instruments.
