ChorWerk Ruhr
is a vocal ensemble whose repertoire stretches from western monophony and polyphony to oratorical works. It also works increasingly on innovative and experimental forms of expression. Recent activities have focused on programmes transcending the boundaries of culture and genre. Under the umbrella of the Ruhrtriennale, it has created music theatre productions since 2002.
Chorwerk Ruhr was founded in 1999 and led until 2003 by Frieder Bernius. Rupert Huber has been artistic director since 2008. In so-called ‘Wirkungssingen’ (affective singing) he places music’s role as a means of communication and perception at the heart of his projects. Through collaborative research with the singers he has been searching for an individual and authentic vocal sound and has formed an incomparable ensemble.
