Edith Clever
Edith Clever was born in Wuppertal and trained as an actor at the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich. In 1971 she went to the Berliner Schaubühne and alongside Jutta Lampe became one of the main protagonists of the ensemble. She developed a close working relationship with the director Hans-Jürgen Syberberg, in whose films she often appeared. Since 1992 she has been working as a director herself, in 2002 she directed Einar Schleef’s novel Gertrud as well as Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days at the Berliner Ensemble. In 2008 she appeared in Luc Bondy’s production of The Maidsat the Wiener Festwochen.
