4th December 2014 – New artistic director Johan Simons has positioned the Ruhrtriennale programme under the leitmotif: “Seid umschlungen” – a gesture of artistic, social and geographical inclusion. Before our publication of the full programme and tickets officially go on sale on Monday, 23rd February, in the spirit of this theme, the Ruhrtiennale wishes to give advance notice of the opening and closing productions in the 2015 season:

The Ruhrtriennale 2015 will open on 14th August 2015 with a world premiere: Accattone by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Johan Simons will stage Pasolini’s first film from the year 1961 as a music theatre project with a score by Johann Sebastian Bach in the former coal mixing hall of Zeche Lohberg (the Lohberg mine). This opening premiere is the first time that Zeche Lohberg - now the  Lohberg Creative Quarter (Kreativ.Quartier Lohberg/KQL) - in Dinslaken, has been a venue for the Ruhrtriennale. In Accattone Philippe Herreweghe will conduct the world famous Collegium Vocale Gent. Simons’ original creation is supported by the Federal Cultural Foundation.
