Additional performance of Matthew Herbert’s 20 Pianos due to high demand

14 May 2014

Additional concert performance with 20 Pianos from all over the world on 24. August at PACT Zollverein.

Since Matthew Herbert's concert performance 20 Pianos on 23. August is already sold out, there will be an additional performance on 24. August at PACT Zollverein. With 20 Pianos, Matthew Herbert tells the stories of twenty unique pianos from all over the world. From Steinways at the famous Abbey Road Studios or great concert halls to out of tune pianos that pass away their existence in privat living rooms: Herbert photographed them all, sampled their specific sound, and recorded brief stories about their origin.

In an improvisational and compositional way Matthew Herbert combines the so captured photos and audio materials to new sounds. Furthermore numbers from Matthew Herbert's repertoire that will be linked with the biography of the instruments can be heard.
This evening Sarah Nicolls und Sam Beste, two internationally renowned pianists, are on stage.

A unique figure in modern music and experimenter with the avantgarde and the familiar, Matthew Herbert is known for working with raw sound, turning ordinary or so called found sound in to stunning electronic music. He has produced and worked with acts as diverse as Björk, Quincy Jones, Serge Gainsbourg and Ennio Morricone.
