then no sound — Hyper-realistic scenes in bourgeois interiors dissolve into archaic rituals of violence and abstract spaces. The theatre of Italian director Romeo Castellucci possesses an irritating capacity for palpable and definite deception. He is unsentimental, almost cool in exploring the imaginative framework of the audience and creating new connections with the imaginary.

No story, no libretto, ten lines and one long scream. In Morton Feldman’s anti-opera Neither, the word from Samuel Beckett’s text which provides the title becomes a key both to the music and the staging. Together Romeo Castellucci and conductor Emilio Pomàrico enter the spatial threshold between I and the other, structure and anti-structure, sound and silence.
