The limousine, the red carpet, seats in the first row: these are all signs of their secret power. Their appearance is a unique performance, their gaze incorruptible, their judgment critical: ´The Show in Which I Felt Nothing at All,` ´Just wow,` ´The Most Electricity Used,´ ´The Most Embarrassing Costume,` or ´The Performance that Bored Me to Sleep.` We are talking about the official festival jury, Ruhrtriennale’s very own official critics. Their members are between 12 and 14, they aren’t afraid of operas without intermissions, theater without subtitles, or living sculptures: that distinguishes them from most adults. And their families—this they share with the artists of the festival—have their roots across the world. Please welcome the experts of this year’s jury!
The Children’s Choice Awards are an initiative of the Canadian research and performance group Mammalian Diving Reflex, which since the mid-1990s has been developing artistic projects for children and teenagers, and not in the interest of the cultural edification of children, but promoting the social edification of the adults. At the center of their experimental work is the idea of the competent child and the question of how art can be used for a more comprehensive vision of a democratic and inclusive society.

To conclude their three years of collaboration with the Ruhrtriennale, Darren O’Donnell and Annie Wong with Mammalian Diving Reflex provide insights into their project work with the public workshop Playing with Children. With the Children’s Choice Awards ceremony and freitagsküche: doing kitchen, the last weekend of the festival will be entirely in the spirit of No Education.

The award ceremony will be hosted by Damien Rebgetz.
