Concerts in Maschinenhaus: Fred Frith

Working with ribbons, brushes, chains, bowls, lentils, peas, and e-bow, Frith mistreats and modifies his instrument, luring us to unsuspected worlds of sound that we would scarcely associate with this instrument. Frith, one of the most influential international improvisers today, is all known for his reinvention of the electric guitar since the 1970s.

The weekly shift of perspective from the large halls to the spatial proximity and concentration of solo recitals of musicians from the international improvisational community and classical chamber music, once again defines the rhythm of the festival. The direct contact to the musicians and the wonderfully balanced acoustics of Maschinenhaus enables a view of details and thus intensifies the experience of music.
