Gernot Böhme

Gernot Böhme was born in Dessau in 1937 and is a philosopher and professor. Following studies in Mathematics, Physics and Philosophy, he was initially employed by the Max Planck Institute in Starnberg. From1977 to 2002 he was Professor of Philosophy at the Technical University Darmstadt. Since 2005 Böhme has been the Director of the Institute for the Practice of Philosophy (IPPh) in Darmstadt and since 2011 Chair of the Darmstadt Goethe Society.

Böhme’s key topics of research include classical philosophy, notably Plato and Kant, scientific research, natural philosophy and the education of perception.

Gernot Böhme was awarded the Denkbar Prize for oblique thought in 2003.
