24 January 2013

The second season of the Ruhrtriennale under the artistic direction of Heiner Goebbels, August 23 – October 6, 2013.

January 24, 2013 - The second season of the Ruhrtriennale under the artistic direction of Heiner Goebbels will open on August 23, 2013 at Bochum’s Jahrhunderthalle with Harry Partch’s masterpiece Delusion of the Fury(1965/66). Especially for this production directed by Heiner Goebbels, an orchestra of the musical instruments Partch himself invented will be built and the members of the Ensemble musikFabrik will learn to play them. American composer Harry Partch (1901–74) is considered one of the most original artists and musicians of the twentieth century. The opening premiere will also be the European premiere of the opera.

Two additional large-scale productions will take place during the Ruhrtriennale at the Kraftzentrale in Duisburg’s Landschaftspark:

Massive Attack V Adam Curtis, a new show by filmmaker and provocateur Adam Curtis and Massive’s Robert del Naja in collaboration with Felix Barrett, Es Devlin and UnitedVisualArtists. Described by Curtis as "a musical entertainment about the power of illusion and the illusion of power" and del Naja as “a collective hallucination”, this will be Massive Attack’s only show in Germany this year. A joint commission of Ruhrtriennale and Manchester International Festival.

Japanese composer and artist Ryoji Ikeda’s test pattern [100 m version] is an audiovisual installation being conceived especially for Duisburg’s Kraftzentrale. The gigantic projection across 100 meters promises to be an experience for all the senses when combined with the rhythmic force of the soundtrack.

The overall program for the Ruhrtriennale 2013 will be presented on April 17, when advanced sales will also begin.

Ruhrtriennale will begin on August 23 and end on October 6, 2013.
