An empty space where the floor is covered with cardboard signs: word by word, three performers start to uncover a text mysterious in origin. For the Spanish choreographer La Ribot, the stage and the museum are sites where limits no longer apply. In her legendary work Laughing Hole, she fuses performance and exhibition to create a new kind of performative art. Words, signs, and actions form a physical reality where the spectators are forced to find a standpoint on the margins. They can come and go as they please, while the performers are forced to continue their work in time and space. Absurd like Beckett, existential like Abramović and devastating like a catastrophe.

La Ribot, born in Madrid, is a choreographer, actress, and artist who lives in Geneva and works around the world. Her works are shown in theatersand museum spaces. In 2009 La Ribot was a guest at Ruhrtriennale with her duet Gustavia, a collaboration with Mathilde Monnier.
