The Ruhrtriennale is a huge machine creating new connections: it is a form of experience that targets the wild combination of people, languages, spaces, forms, and materials. The chain of performances and actions and its more or less accidental sequence open an aesthetic infinity for the audience.
In our tumbletalks series, dance meets tableau, video encounters literature, architecture meets the climate debate, the East meets the West, an artist encounters another artist or his accomplice, the curator. At a festival, conversations with artists have a wonderfully poetic function, a fragile balancing act in which the audience can participate. In so doing, conversation and the artwork play the ball to one another: from seeing to the image, from observation to movement, from travelling to doing, and back to travelling, from the private to the public, from everyday life to art. This means acknowledging the art of speaking as a different version of the artwork itself, one that plays with its counterpart, with explanation and reading.
