Steven Sloane

American conductor Steven Sloane, born in 1958 in Los Angeles, USA, is a versatile and dedicated musician. A visionary, Sloane's extraordinarily creative concepts have garnered him respect in artistic circles, as well as in the realm of cultural politics. Being the musical director of the Bochumer Symphoniker since 1994, he was the driving influence behind the soon to be built Bochum Music Center, which will give the orchestra its own hall.
Since 2007, Steven Sloane is principal conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and together with the orchestra he will move to a new concert hall by 2012.
Steven Sloane's original programming concepts have been awarded twice with the title Best Concert Program by the Deutscher Musikverleger-Verband. He regularly works with renowned orchestras such as San Francisco Symphony Orchestar, Israel Philharmonic, DSO Berlin, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. He has directed at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Copenhagen Opera House and De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam.
As artistic director of RUHR.2010 he was in charge of the programming concept of the culture capital year 2010 in the Ruhr area.
