Sam Hamilton

Sam Hamilton is a New Zealand born interdisciplinary artist who, when not working on projects abroad, lives in the Auckland. He has toured both sound and film performances throughout NZ, Australia, South America, USA and Europe for venues ranging from theatres and festivals to warehouse parties and galleries. For his films, performances and installations Hamilton collaborates with a diverse range of musicians, scientists, film makers and other artists from NZ and abroad.
His work includes experimental film and video such as Blue Tide, Black Water, a 35mm experimental film collaboration with Eve Gordon. He also created the on-going expanded cinema project The Parasitic Fantasy Band, which has presented live film works throughout Australia, USA and Germany.
His music making has had diverse outcomes including; releasing records and CDs, traversing the Amazon rain forest with microphones, scoring soundtracks for film and dance. Hamilton is also a very active promoter and organiser of events, programmes and workshops e.g. for Auckland International Film Festival, Alleluya Noise Festival and Feel Good Things Festival. Sam Hamilton received an Arts Foundation New Generation Award in 2011.
In 2011, Hamilton took part in the production of MAU in South America and Europe by Lemi Ponifasio.
