Peter Rundel

Born in Friedrichshafen, Germany, Peter Rundel studied violin with Igor Ozim and Ramy Shevelov in Cologne, Hannover and New York, as well as conducting with Michael Gielen and Peter Eötvös. The composer Jack Brimberg also taught him in New York. From 1984 to 1996 he was a violinist in Ensemble Modern, to which he remains closely affiliated as a conductor.
He is regularly invited to guest conduct the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, DSO and RSO Berlin, RSO Stuttgart, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, as well as the radio orchestras of Hamburg, SWR Baden-Baden, Frankfurt, Saarland, the ORF Vienna, the Orchestra Nazionaledella RAI Torino, the musikFabrik Cologne and the Ensemble Intercontemporain.
Peter Rundel has conducted opera productions at the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna Festwochen, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Bregenz Festival. His work with opera includes traditional repertoire as well as groundbreaking contemporary music theatre productions.
In 2005, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Remix Ensemble in Porto.The great success of their performances together at important festivals throughout Europe documents this fruitful collaboration. With their highly acclaimed production Ring Saga, the ensemble toured Portugal, France and Luxembourg in the 2011/12 season. In season 2012/13 Peter Rundel is re-invited by orchestras of the WDR, SWR and the BR among others. Towards the end of the season he will perform his debut with the Orchestre National de Lyon.
At Ruhrtriennale 2010 Peter Rundel conducted Leila und Madschnun.
