Frode Olsen

Frode Olsen was born in Oslo where he studied at the National Opera Conservatory after which he became a member of the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the ensemble of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. Since then his career has taken him to international opera houses in Brussels, Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Bonn, Olso, Amsterdam, Strasbourg, Lyon, Vienna as well as the Festivals of Salzburg, Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provence and Pesaro. He worked with the stage directors Peter Sellars, Peter Konwitschny, Luc Bondy and conductors Claudio Abbado, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Ingo Metzmacher and Sylvain Cambreling. His most important roles include the title role in Saint Francois d'Assise, Astradamors in Le Grand Macabre, König Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Gurnemanz in Parsifal, Wotan in Die Walküre, Pimen in Boris Godunov, Doktor in Wozzeck, Moses in Moses und Aron and Arkel in Pelleas et Mélisande. His recent and future engagements include the role of Der Mönch in Matsukaze, Vodnik in Rusalka and Arkel in Pelleas et Mélisande in Brussels.
