Birgit Goris

Birgit Goris plays in several ensembles, both orchestral and smaller chamber music groups such as Ensemble 415, les Agrémens, Gli Angeli Genève, les Folies Françoises, Concerto Soave and others. She plays mediaeval music with such ensembles as Musica Nova, Alla Francesca, Canto Coronato and Mala Punica. She started her musical studies at the State Music Academy in Antwerp. She continued her violin studies under Alexis Galperine at the Conservatoire National de Région in Strasbourg, where she won a médaille d'or. At the same time, under the guidance of Alice Pierot and Martin Gester she discovered the baroque violin and historical performance practice. Ultimately, under Odile Edouard, she specialised in the early music repertoire at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Lyon. Under Pierre Hamon she discovered the viol and the performance practices of mediaeval music. In 2004 ADAMI awarded her a grant for the purchase of a Renaissance violin built by Marcello Ardizonne.
