Der Ministerpräsident des Landes NRWThe State of North Rhine-Westphalia is, together with Paris and London, one of the most diverse and densely populated cultural spaces in Europe. Nowhere else in Germany are there as many theatres, museums and exhibition spaces to discover. Because this wealth of culture can still be put to better use, culture has had its own voice again in the parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since July 2010 with Culture Minister Ute Schäfer. The Ruhrtriennale is one of the marquee events of North Rhine-Westphalia’s cultural world and attracts international attention to the region with its performances in former industrial spaces. In keeping with the motto of the 2010 Capital of Culture »Transformation Through Culture – Culture Through Transformation«, which underlines the meaning of imagination, creativity and innovation in the matter of restructuring, the Ruhrtriennale with its innovative productions makes a substantial contribution to the profile of the future »Ruhr Metropolis«.
