Sing! Dance! Till Heaven Graces the Earth
»Oh Man, learn to dance, or else / the angels in Heaven won’t know what to do with you.« / Augustine of Hippo
»Exhilarating, witty, musically brilliant! We have discovered a powerful burlesque world full of colour«, the press enthused after Christina Pluhar’s concert with her ensemble L’Arpeggiata at the Ruhrtriennale 2010.
The freshness, lively passion for music and pleasure in experimentation of these remarkable musicians provides the basis once again this year for a surprising and compelling concert which Christina Pluhar will conceive for the Ruhrtriennale. An iridescent kaleidoscope of music in its widest forms turns into a journey round the world in music and dance – from the compositions of southern European Baroque masters through Spanish folk tunes to the regional traditions of India and Turkey to the Portuguese ›song of fate‹ fado.
Mísia, the legendary artist who has revived fado and become its greatest exponent, will come together with Christina Pluhar in the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum. This evening represents the long-held wish of both artists to work together – to make baroque and fado one. This remarkable encounter promises to combine the variety and vitality of the most varied musical cultures, driven by L’Arpeggiata, the ›baroque band‹ using psalter, guitar, theorbo and percussion to create an unforgettably lively musical experience.
A Ruhrtriennale commission.
