Pişman değilim (I regret nothing)

Kilink Istanbul’da, Proudpilot & Bant, Baba Zula, Ceza feat. Ayben Presented by hosts Danielle de Picciotto and Alexander Hacke A "Century of Song" concert

Berlin musician Alexander Hacke, known as the bassist with Einstürzende Neubauten, was invited by film director Fatih Akin in 2004 to be the protagonist of a documentary Crossing the Bridge –The Sound of Istanbul.  He accompanied Akin on a musical voyage of discovery through the Turkish metropolis.  Hacke and his wife, the artist Danielle de Picciotto, got to know everyone from street musicians to Turkish megastars who make up the music scene of Istanbul, a city which till today forms a bridge between Orient and Occident, between tradition and modernity.  For Century of Song, the duo have now conceived a gala of Turkish music spread over two evenings.  Hosts Picciotto and Hacke introduce the Ruhrtriennale audience to musicians from Crossing the Bridge along some other new discoveries.

Alexander Hacke, Khan of Finland and N. U. Unruh, percussionist with Einstürzende Neubauten, create a new soundtrack for the cult classic Turkish trash film Kilink Istanbul’da.  Proudpilot, a new band which has rapidly become a favourite with fans since its foundation two years ago, appeal directly to a new generation of listeners with a mixture of rock beats, experimental sounds and Turkish song.  Baba Zula, who have become a cult band of international standing since their appearance in Crossing the Bridge, bring their oriental dub to the stage together with a real live belly dancer. Supported by his sister Ayben, Ceza (Turkish for ‘punishment’) shows why he has been considered his country’s most brilliant virtuoso rapper for over ten years.

The series Century of Song has been produced by the Ruhrtriennale.
