Wajdi Mouawad

The writer, actor and director was born into a Christian family in Lebanon. Their flight from the civil war led the family to Paris for several years and eventually to Montréal in Canada. Mouawad trained there as an actor and founded the Théâtre Ô Parleur with friends. For his plays he received bursaries and several prizes. The play Littoral-Tideline was invited to the 1999 Avignon Festival, and in 2005 he was awarded the Prix Molière for the same piece. Wajdi Mouawad’s works have been translated into several languages and performed around the world.  In 2007 he became artistic director of the Théâtre Français am Centre National des Arts in Ottawa, Canada.
