Günter Grass

The sculptor, graphic designer and writer was born in Danzig in 1927, completed an apprenticeship as a stone mason after his release from an American prisoner of war camp and studied graphics and sculpture in Düsseldorf and Berlin. His first volume of poems and drawings was published in 1956. After his Danzig Trilogy (The Tin Drm, Cat and Mouse, Dog Years) numerous novels and international prizes followed. Günter Grass was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1999. Today he lives and works near Lübeck.
