The miraculous discovery of the young Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, who became the wonder of Salzburg with her Donna Anna and Violetta,means she is now one of the best-known international singing stars.  Indeed, she has become a contemporary female icon, comparable to a pop-star. Her fascinating vocal range enables her to bring a finely nuanced individuality to each of the roles she plays, whether tragically heroic or captivatingly comic. Audiences love her finely rendered legatos and her inner radiance. She is a mistress of tonal adroitness: cooing, glittering, and unmistakeably illuminating her characters from Mozart, Donizetti, Bellini, Gounod, Massenet or Puccini.

Anna Netrebko will be appearing for the first time at the Ruhrtriennale alongside the widely-acclaimed Italian tenor Massimo Giordano, who performs regularly at opera-houses around the world. Together they will perform arias and duets from operas and operettas by composers such as Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi, Charles Gounod and Giacomo Puccini.
