Mirjam Pressler

Mirjam Pressler was born in Darmstadt and studied at the Akademie für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt and languages in Munich, and went to live for a year on a kibbutz in Israel.  Back in Germany she had several jobs, including running a shop selling jeans.  Mirjam Pressler has written over 30 books for children and young people, including Malka Mai and Bitterschokolade, and translated more than 200 books for children, young people and adults from the Dutch, Flemish, Hebrew, Afrikaans and English.  She has received many notable prizes, including the German Jugendliteraturpreis and the Deutscher Bücherpreis.
