Marc Ribot
Marc Ribot, guitarist and composer, was born in Newark, New Jersey. As a teenager he started playing in various garage bands and studied under his mentor, the guitarist and composer Frantz Casseus. In 1978 Ribot went to New York. He was a band member of the Realtones and John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards, and he worked with such notable artists as Chuck Berry, Tom Waits, Soloman Burke, Elvis Costello und Marianne Faithfull. In addition he worked on the soundtracks for the films Walk the Line and The Departed, amongst others. Ribot is this season’s artistic director of the Century of Song series.
