Elsbeth Gerritsen

A musicology graduate from the University of Utrecht, mezzo-soprano Elsbeth Gerritsen trained as a singer with Margreet Honig at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Elsbeth Gerritsen is much in demand as a soloist for repertoire ranging from baroque compositions like Bach’s St John and St Matthew Passions, to 20th century pieces like Honegger’s Le Roi David, and Arvo Pärt’s Stabat Mater. She also enjoys singing Lieder, and has performed in several (inter-) national chambermusic festivals. In the Dutch Hortus Festival she is a regular guest. Her recitals there have included songs by Richard Wagner, Ottorino Respighi, Arnold Schönberg and Paul Hindemith. Elsbeth Gerritsen gave premiere-performances of compositions by Evrim Demirel, Sergei Nevski, Florian Magnus Maier, Sébastien Roux, and Bart Visman, many of which with VocaalLAB Nederland. Her operatic roles include Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, Marthe in Faust by Gounod, Eliza in The Zoo by Sullivan, and Sally in A Hand of Bridge by Barber. She is also the alto in Quink, a vocal quintet of international repute.
