Bochum Symphony
The orchestra was founded in 1919 and during the course of its history has developed into one of the most important concert orchestras in West Germany. Since 1994 Steven Sloane has been General Music Director of the Bochum Symphony, and under his leadership it has twice won the much-coveted accolade of Best Concert Programme, awarded by the Musikverlegerverband (association of music publishers). The orchestra has also been successful internationally and toured to Israel, Austria, the USA and Estonia. The Bochum Symphony received a Grammy for its recording of Orchesterlieder by the late Romantic composer, Joseph Marx. At the 2008 Ruhrtriennale they could be seen in Zimmermann’s production of Die Soldaten.
