Meshell Ndegeocello

Meshell Ndegeocello was born in Berlin and grew up in Virginia. Her musical career began whilst she was studying, later on she became band leader for the TV show Saturday Night Live.  Following her engagement there, she signed a contract with Madonna’s production company Maverick, who produced her first album Plantation Lullabies in 1993. In the following years she worked with renowned artists such as Carlos Santana, the Rolling Stones and David Bowie. In 2002 her most successful album to date - Cookie: The Anthropological Mixtape – came out. Up til now she has released eight LPs and is one of the best bassists in the world. She is considered to have opened the way for artists such as Erykah Badu.
