Louis-Paul Boon

Louis Paul Boon (1912-1979) is considered one of the most important Dutch writers. He originally followed in his father’s footsteps and worked as a house painter in order to feed the family, he did not actually start writing until the 1930s. Much of his work is shaped by his socialist point of view. After completing military service during the Second World War and being held as prisoner-of-war, his first novel De voorstad groelt was published in 1941.

In 1967 he received the Constantijn Huygensprijs for his body of work and later on won the Belgian State Prize on two occasions (in 1971 and 1978).
