We’re going to Berlin! Excursion on 20 September for young people age 12 and upwards to the German Bundestag to meet the President of the German Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, Patron of the Theatre Academy for Children

Art is wonderful, but it costs (a lot of) money …
About interests in and responsibility for art and culture

Art and culture have been supported by the state in Germanyfor centuries. In earlier times it was rich princes and kings who invited artists to their court.  Nowadays art is supported by the state, by the government, by the Länder and local authorities and to a level that is hardly reproduced anywhere else in the world: without this support, the cultural landscape in Germany would not be as large nor as versatile, nor could there be so many theatre and opera houses, museums or festivals.

President of the Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert will discuss with the young participants how politics creates the determining factors/general conditions or framework for culture, and where its duties and limits lie. Dr. Prof. Lammert, himself from Bochum and a social scientist, has considerably influenced politics at a Land and Bund level over ht epast 40 years and is passionaltely involved in art and culture. His own experience eleads him to confirm the quote from Karl Valentin: »Art is beautiful, but requires a lot of work.«
