On the face of it, the Trojan Boat is a story about a mysterious barque, which anchors one night between two islands whose inhabitants are implacable enemies. The islanders soon discover that there is a beautiful princess living on board, who is searching for a suitable bridegroom. In the ensuing contest, the islanders struggle passionately to win the fair stranger –using all the arts of courtship...

The Trojan Boat is the first theatrical work by the Viennese wind septet Mnozil Brass, who have aptly been described as the "Monty Pythons of Music". Although as inspired by the genre's great tradition as they were daunted, together with director Bernd Jeschek they accepted the RuhrTriennale's commission to write the first operetta of the 21st century with a passionate furore.

The members of Mnozil Brass all graduated from Vienna's famous University of Music. Audiences are captivated by their breathtaking comedy and over-the-top imagination. True to Shakespeare's motto, "Let me play the lion too", they have chosen to take on both the musical and acting roles in their operetta and – just in passing and with a lot of humour – they also blur the boundaries between stage and orchestra pit.

In order to allow as much of theRuhr district as possible to be present at the rebirth of operetta, Mnozil Brass and the Triennale will be going on tour. Following the performances in Bochum, The Trojan Boat will be dropping anchor at Mülheim, Herne, Gelsenkirchen and Hamm.
