Aeneas flees from Troy to Carthage where he meets Dido, herself fleeing from war. A burning love spontaneously develops between these two deracinated individuals. But the gods demand that Aeneas must found Rome. When he abandons Dido, she kills herself. David Marton stages a collage of memory and forgetting in this music theatre project. Virgil’s original text, Kalle Kalima’s compositions and Erika Stucky’s singing are discovered, submerged in layers of earth. These found remnants of Europe turn into echoes of Purcell’s opera: a relic once exhumed and made present that has now disappeared again.
