Bochumer Symphoniker

The Bochumer Symphoniker was founded in 1919. Over the course of its history it has earned a reputation as an extremely versatile ensemble. It has twice won the coveted German Association of Music Publishers’ award for the Best Concert Programme of the Season: in 1996/1997 and again in 2004/2005. The Bochumer Symphoniker’s international success has included concert tours to Israel, Austria, Estonia, the Netherlands and the USA. The orchestra makes regular appearances at the Ruhrtriennale, performing in 2019 in Kornél Mundruczó’s "Evolution" in 2019 and twice in 2018, in both Christoph Marthaler’s "Universe, Incomplete" and Kornél Mundruczó’s production of "Das Floß der Medusa" by Hans Werner Henze. The Bochumer Symphoniker has displayed its flexibility and enthusiasm for innovation in a range of cross-over projects, for example with Sting, appearing on TV in the Harald Schmidt Show and performing orchestral concerts of video game soundtracks. The orchestra has recorded the complete works of the German late Romantic composer Joseph Marx on CD as well as Lieder by Mahler and Rihm with the tenor Christoph Prégardien.
