The Ruhr conurbation's theatrical landscape has a reputation which extends far beyond the region itself. With the RuhrBühnen it has established a strong network bringing together eleven publicly subsidized theatres from nine cities in the Ruhr region. Together they present the exceptional depth and artistic diversity of the performing arts within the region.
On Sunday, 1st October 2017 a theatrical journey will link ten theatres and the Ruhrtriennale through a series of performances over the course of a single day.
This theatrical journey is an opportunity to experience the Ruhr's theatrical landscape in several different cities: lasting all day, the audience will encounter an entire world of theatre, dance, music, performance and sound from very different artistic perspectives. Parallel routes each allow visitors to encounter three theatres from the RuhrBühnen network. Which three theatres are included on the respective routes will not be revealed.
The journey starts at 10 am on Sunday morning from the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum. Following an exciting tour packed full of experiences, the 1,100 travellers will then return to the unique atmosphere of the Jahrhunderthalle at around 7pm in order to share a meal together and talk about what they have seen and experienced. Your hosts for the evening's finale is the Ruhrtriennale. Together with the RuhrBühnen it will bring audiences and practitioners together for an evening which marks the transition from the festival programme to the regular theatre season.
The journeys between venues pass through an urban landscape which both visibly and invisibly reflects the dramatic global, political and social changes of the present day. The performances each refer in their own ways to urgent questions concerning the future of our open societies.
The following venues are included along the way:
Schauspielhaus Bochum / Theater Dortmund / PACT Zollverein / Theater und Philharmonie Essen / Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen / Theater Hagen / Schlosstheater Moers / Ringlokschuppen Ruhr / Theater an der Ruhr / Theater Oberhausen
