„Wert und Schönheit der Deutschen Kolonien"; echter Andre Hofer Feigenkaffee, 1937

In 1905 an impoverished young woman leaves Berlin and emigrates to the German colony of Cameroon. Her social advancement is achieved at the expense of her native neighbours and servants who are engaged in stubborn but futile resistance against the Germans – against the appropriation of their land and forced labour accompanied by whippings.
In 2015 a young man sets off from Cameroon for Germany. He sees no alternative for himself to the wealth of Europe. By doggedly exploiting himself he is able to secure a regular job in Berlin. He increasingly loses contact with his homeland. However, one day he will do his boss a favour and, against his own wishes, accept an assignment in Cameroon.
A parallel montage of European colonial violence and its consequences –
The stories are told simultaneously in two adjacent spaces. The audience is divided and swaps places after the stories have been performed once in order to be able to experience the other period. Sounds from each of the two spaces infiltrate the other. The colonial age pervades the present like a poltergeist while in the colonial past one can hear harbingers of a future reminiscent of today.
