Tindersticks

Richard Dumas

Anyone who’s ever heard Tindersticks will recognize them instantly. With their mix of jazzy grooves, Sixties pop and Northern Soul elements, the British band has taken up a pre-eminent position with the Berlin label City Slang. Without a trace of false pathos frontman Stuart Staples’s sonorous soul voice laments earthly loves and losses while the perfectly composed strong and brass arrangements send a shiver down your spine. To coincide with the release of Tindersticks’ latest album, ‘The Waiting Room’, in February 2016, the band has launched a film project with the same title. Premiered in January 2016 at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, ‘The Waiting Room Film Project’ made its German debut a month later at the Berlin Volksbühne as part of the Berlinale. The project is a collaboration between Tindersticks and a range of international film directors. Each track of the new album has been translated into a short film. At the Ruhrtriennale ‘The Waiting Room Film Project’ will be screened in the glorious surroundings of Essen’s Lichtburg, with the band playing the soundtrack live. Following the cinema concert, Tindersticks will play a selection of tracks from their previous albums.
