Pantha du Prince

Berlin-based artist Hendrik Weber, known under the pseudonym Pantha du Prince, is a sublime oddity within the electronic club music scene. Alongside darkly humming bass lines and digital textures, Weber often likes to investigate the individual sounds of specific materials. After becoming a star of the international club scene in the space of a couple of years with remixes of Depeche Mode, Philipp Glass and Animal Collective, he added the sound of real bells to his electronically generated sonic repertoire. For the project ‘Pantha du Prince and the Bell Laboratory’ he gathered an ensemble of Norwegian percussionists to work with him. From a techno base, a sound was created which opened up an exciting new area between a club and a mass.

At the Ruhrtriennale 2016 Pantha du Prince will introduce his new band project The Triad. Thanks to a scholarship from the Musicboard Berlin he spent three months in 2015 working on new material at the historic Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. The result of this is the band The Triad, in which Weber is joined by the guitarist and PandaBear collaborator Scott Mou and the Norwegian percussionist Bendik Hovik Kjeldsberg. Their album will be released in 2016 on the celebrated indie pop label Rough Trade Records. Their live show is a hybrid of contemporary electronic pop music, shaman-inspired sound theories and a complex light show – with, for the first time, live vocals by Hendrik Weber.
