Tarek Halaby

Tarek Halaby is a Palestinian- American artist born in 1980 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He grew up dancing in Chicago, holds a BFA in Dance Performance from The University of Iowa and completed the Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels in 2006.
From 2001-2004 Tarek was a founding member of Miguel Gutierrez and The Powerful People, at which time he also worked with other companies and independent choreographers in New York. In 2009, he worked again with MGPP on “Last Meadow”, which won a 2010 New York Dance and Performance Bessie Award.
As an independent artist, Tarek has been supported and produced by the workspace WP Zimmer in Antwerp. Collaborations of recent years include performing in the work of Salva Sanchis (BE), the theater-circus company Zimmermann & De Perrot (CH) and the electronic band The Knife (SE). Recently, he played the main character in “Problemski Hotel”, the film by Manu Riche based on the book by Flemish author Dimitri Verhulst.
Currently, he works as a dancer in the creation “Golden Hours (As You Like It)” by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker/Rosas, the performance “‘A song to...’” by Mia Habib/ (NOR), and “Meyoucycle” by Eleanor Bauer & Chris Peck/GoodMove in collaboration with Ictus ensemble. In the fall of 2016 he will be performing in the new creation of Olle Strandberg/ Cirkus Cirkör (SE).
