Matthias Pintscher

Matthias Pintscher has been Music Director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain since 2013. Concert tours with the ensemble have so far taken him to Cologne, Strasbourg and Milan, and he also conducted the concert to mark Pierre Boulez’ 90th birthday at the Barbican Centre in London.
Alongside his work with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Matthias Pintscher is also artist in association with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. From the beginning of the 2016/17 season he will also take over the position of Principal Conductor of the Lucerne Festival Academy. He conducted concerts in the 2015/16 as part of a residency with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and has also conducted the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, RSO Berlin and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

Matthias Pintscher is also an active composer whose works have been performed by orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, New York Philharmonic and the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg. He was Composer in Residence at the Grafenegg Festival in 2015.

Since September 2014 Matthias Pintscher has been Professor of Composition at the Juilliard School of Music in New York.
