Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter ... and Spring

A small boy grows up with his master in the monastery. From him the boy learns the principle of desire and suffering but it is only through contact with human life’s capacity for desire that he understands that all life is suffering: out of love for a woman he leaves the monastery. This love causes him to commit a crime. The now adult man cannot escape his punishment, however, he does find a way back along the »middle way«. Kim Ki-duk shows the cycle of life in powerful and poetic images in whose steady rhythm moments of experience and recognition are constantly repeated.
