Ruhrtriennale 2009
Much of what makes up the character of the Ruhrgebiet did indeed come from Aus der Fremde – from afar. Aus der Fremde was the title of this season from 19 August to 15 October and reflects the situation of a region, whose cultural origins are diverse and disparate and whose cultural present is creative and open to the world.
From afar came many artists who were either staging, performing or putting on a concert: turning the Festival into a European meeting-point for both artists and spectators.
From afar also came many of the programming ideas, conceived by the late artistic director of the RuhrTriennale, Marie Zimmermann, who is sadly no longer with us. It was her thoughts and concepts that had shaped the programme for the 2008 RuhrTriennale.
