Heinrich knows everything. And therefore he knows nothing. That annoys him a lot. He starts thinking stupid thoughts. He gets mixed up with forbidden things and cannot get rid of them – the spirits he has called. Like many great stories, that of the scholar Heinrich Faust is based on simple yet profound experiences – and it is not just adults who make them. It is all about being, about reality and appearances, about intention and inability. Because who doesn't want to be big, bigger than the others, prettier, stronger, faster, richer and cleverer? Who doesn't want to be able to travel wherever the fancy takes him, to eat whatever he wants and as much as he wants, to help his friends, punish his enemies and above all else, be admired by everyone? Or to experience adventures? To inspect the witches' kitchen and take part in Walpurgis night revels? More than anything else, Margarete waits. With her waits the greatest and most difficult adventure. And it is this adventure which will eventually help Heinrich free himself from the shadow which has been his constant companion, no matter how much he tried to shake it off.
