Spying, intrigues, passions and hunger for power at the Spanish court – Andrea Breth has succeeded in staging Schiller's dramatic poem of 1787, whilst presenting new images. Treating the piece as a mixture of political thriller and family soap, she shows us people whose love for one another goes most terribly adrift.
